Today, I want to talk about the importance of taking care of…you!
If you’re like me, you can be harder on yourself than you would be on anyone else.
I know after my accident I couldn’t perform as I used to. Even daily routines of meals, self-care, and simple tasks overwhelmed me. I berated myself again and again because I couldn’t accomplish the many things I used to do as a nurse, or fitness club owner, or minister.
Meeting our own idealistic expectations creates an enormous amount of stress….and sometimes no way to really even breathe.
But I have learned that being compassionate with myself, being a mindful witness and supporting that part of me that is struggling really changes my outlook. This includes being empathetic to how I am dealing now and preparing compassion for my future self.
What does that mean? Imagine your future self….one or 5 years down the road. You see yourself as compassionate, caring…and your future self is sharing advice with your present-day self. “I understand what you’re going through. But you will get through this as long as you stay true to what you desire”.
Accept the support, encouragement and wisdom you receive from your future self. Forgive yourself for the “mistakes” you feel you’ve made. Let triumph for succeeding flow through you.
Selah – pause for a time and think on this.
Until next time…all the best and blessings.
